Lately I've seen a couple of threads removed once the discussion became harsh and likely deemed abusive. I'm in favor of discouraging abusive language in threads, for the record.

In the past, am I correct that the policy was to LOCK threads at that point, instead of removing them entirely?

I'm giving my opinion that it seems unfortunate to remove an entire thread, which ideally contained certain amounts of valuable discussion (a highly debatable standard, I'm sure), for the sake of a few posts which may have been ruled as having crossed a line. A vote against throwing out the baby with the bath water, in other words.

    So two questions, respectfully submitted:

Could the policy return to locking threads vs. removing them entirely?
Could removed threads possibly be restored again, but locked?

I'd imagine, "sometimes the names and places have to be removed to protect the innocent" ;)
