    LOVE the RC kits.
I’ve had two of them in my lifetime ... Cherry Wood and Piano Black. Unreal kits.
So happy for you. They are kits that inspire.
I’ve had people in my life epitomizing the Recording Custom ... you just can’t help yourself wanting to hit them (beep beep beep JOKE beep beep beep). These drums pull at the deepest parts of the drummer.

I keep hearing about the "amazing" "legendary" Yamaha recording custom kits.
I never played one, and no one around here has them in stock.
And they are sooooooooooo expensive to buy new.

Now, I do have the latest Stage Custom, which is 100% birch, but an "intermediate" build.
How close does my Stage Custom sound to the Recording Custom?
Where can I buy a Recording Custom without donating my kidneys?

Hector, check out this DFO thread for experienced comparisons, as well as this useful video from Drum Center of Portsmouth. I’m not a medical professional, so I can’t help you with your second question.

Trey, Congratulations on scoring a holy grail kit from a prized era!

My late brother had a set of those in white I need to pick up from my moms. How would they compare to the birch (made in china) stage customs I'm playing which are much newer

I had them on a few backlines and while I swore off buying acoustic kits, the RCs are one of the few I'll buy.

Congrats, that is a very nice score!

I've always loved the sound of Yamaha RC's, especially those from that era. I would love to get a vintage RC kit one day ...

So, if I were to try and seek out some Yamaha RC drums, is there a preferred era for them?
Like the "golden years"? 80's ? 90's ? New? With or without YESS? Tom depth?
    Perhaps they were always exceptional?
Is there a documented timeline anywhere for the series over the years, stating the changes?
