Give chrome with the Gretch logo in a matching finish a try too.

I finally got the X8P in. Terribly boxed (just the box, no extra padding and outer box) for such a distance, but he did include a belkin TB3 cable, and even a breakout jack cable (which I don’t need now, but who knows in future).

Finally able to use those 45 plugins. That is… If the plugin eco system works as it should (which for now it doesn’t, so opened a ticket for that).
The chrome looks great but isn't it a fingerprint magnet?
I would spend all day keeping it clean.

And, wow, that Apollo is a serious(ly expensive) interface!

What was the last time you touched your front head?

Only if you touch it. And then just whipe it off.

Yeah the apollo was an investment. So I really have to make the plugins work, otherwise I could have used something like a Audient Evo 16 with extra SP8 modules.

So the plugins (should) work natively on the audio interface, pretty cool.
I'm looking to upgrade my older 8 channel interface as well.
I got it working on Win 11 but the device driver is pretty ancient and not updated anymore.

Yes it saves a bit of processing power on the computer side, and Unison really adds to the extra functionality:

In addition to saving resources on the computer side, it allows for real-time effects processing, with no latency. To me, that’s the biggest advantage of the Apollo ecosystem. I can get my signal amplified, effected, and into my ears without having to ever touch a computer. And the plugins are second-to-none.

On top of that, add in Luna, which is now my go-to DAW for anything that doesn’t lean on MIDI or multi-out VIs, and it’s a super compelling product line for me. I’m currently up to an x8p, an x8, and an x4, with a Focusrite 18i20 providing 8 more channels via ADAT. That gives me 16 channels of Unison pres, 4 channels of analog pres, and 8 channels of ADAT pres (that I use to keep my synths / drum machines hardwired in at all times)

From what I read, Unison only works on the internal xlr preamps (not adat or line added inputs).

That is the only (but understandable, seeing how it works) downside. You really have to invest a few K’s as a drummer (and that is without plugin purchases) even if you buy used, to mic up a kit and being able to run unison.

Im still about 8-14 channels short now for my full mic setup wishes. So adding a X8P/8P and a X4 will be needed in the future. 20 channels of Unison able’d preamps is ultimate freedom.

And with patch bays I can record extra instruments too, on the last 5 channels.

Add an Audient ASP880 in the mix and you can switch outboard gear with one press of a button.

One good thing is that the plugins now can run native (I use Logic) so at least part of the eco system can be used in other situations now too.

I bought the UAD signature Edition with a proper discount two months ago (which also made the desicion to sell the Rhodes, much easier).

That's correct -- the Unison tech only works on the on-device XLR inputs. With external preamps though, it's not much of a concern -- the benefits of Unison is the original-hardware impedance matching. That's not as much of an issue on external analog pres (as they'll already have their own correct impedance). For ADAT inputs, you don't get that, but you can still get 95% of the effect by using a preamp plugin in the insert. You won't get the impedance match, but you'll still get all of the modeling.

The bigger issue with ADAT can be the slight latency difference -- I generally try to avoid to multi-mic'ing a single source split across ADAT + Apollo. Can get weird phasing issues -- certainly fixable in post, but I try to avoid work wherever possible :D

Ludwig Black Beauty b-stock, 14x6,5. Gave it a polish and new heads.
Was first wondering why is a b-stock, but then I noticed these 3 spots under the flange of the bearing edge, where the black nickel hasn't attached. Lol.

Usually I have not been Ludwig fan (owned and sold about 10 different Supras, Acros, hammered bronze and one 5" BB ), but this one sounded fantastic right from the gate.

Those three spots must have added sonic magic to the drum

After some back and forth with their support line, I got the X registered, and even 8 extra plugins were added.

Together with the ones from the old X, and the Signature Edition bundle I bought last month, there are some nice options to choose from now:

This custom rug came in too.

The size is 3x2m (three standard drum risers together).

I dubbed it the drum and bass rug, as it provides space for both the drummer and bass player together.

Got a early 70s pointy badge 6.5 supra from an auction. I thought it was a 5 inch from the pictures but was happily surprised when it arrived as it would have been a great score even at the smaller size. Does have a lot of pitting but sounds great and badge and parts are very good. Thinking of doing an alcohol ink paint job on it.
