"Best" bass drum pedal ever?

My pedals. The first one is part of the DW5000 double pedal I got back in 2000. The other pedals I’ve gotten in the last 5 years. I got the Tama Camco because a lot of guys online said good things about it and Elvin Jones liked it and I was into him at the time. The one in the center is a Pearl strap drive that Mel Lewis mentioned in his clinic video on YouTube. He said it was good and also somebody here on the forum recommended it. And of course I had to have a speed king. The last pedal is one of those cheaper Yamaha pedals with a strap that I did a few small modifications to that they suggested on a Sounds Like Like a Drum video (it was basically just replacing a couple things near the spring area and getting a heavier felt beater than the one it came with).

DW 5000 Turbo….done. No bells and whistles but a great performing pedal that will last as long as you want it…it’s the Supraphonic 400 of bass drum pedals.

I'm surprised there's so little mention of the Tama Dyna-Sync. It's my favorite I've found. I have a Yamaha FP9C I really WANT to like but I keep going back to the Dyna-Sync.

I definitely prefer the Turbo to the Accelerator version.

Same, I could not like the FP9 either as much as I wanted to. And I tried all three drive varieties. Just goes to show how much personal preference plays into it. There is no universal "best".

(I currently play a Dyna-Sync as well)

I have a dyna sync as well, I've had troubles with the junction coupling the footboard and the drive linkage rotating lose after a few songs of hard playing thus flatenning the footboard angle to a near unplayable position. That one is gonna come back home as well after the summer.

Interesting. I haven’t experienced that and have played mine for years, many times full bore. Maybe something is stripped on yours?

Maybe.

In my band I leave the throne on a couple tunes to go and sing up front. One of my bandmates mans the kit on those, and he's quite heavy-footed. I wouldn't be surprised if he stripped something...

I like my 1950's Premier 250.

It's simple, fast, smooth, reliable, light, folds flat, inexpensive, the beater doesn't swing back and forth like a perpetual motion machine, and my foot doesn't slide around on the rubber coated footplate. Altogether, it's good enough that in 60+ years I haven't found the need to look for anything different. I have three of them with my kits and a spare in the trunk of my car.

I need to up my pedal game. I've only owned 3. An older Pearl, a DW5000 and my current Gibraltar direct drive. I did try a few here and there and liked the Iron Cobra line.

So far I've got most enjoyment from the ACD Darwin (with strap drive) with its special spring geometry. This allows me to play delicately, with very low spring tension: the pedal sticks to the sole of your foot making it easy to vary dynamics/accents when making patterns with two bass drums. No more foot boards slapping the shoe or beaters double-bouncing on the batter head.

I use pearl demon drive. I had a dbl pedal configuration bit went to a double bass drum set up, and its cool that youncan make the pedal into 2 independent pedals. So I did that and bought a single pedal as well. Then I needed a backup and bought a yamaha FP9 as a backup, but now I use the yamaha for my left foot and the pearl on my right. The yamaha feels good on my left but not my right
And tbe pearl is better fir my right foot

Can’t say it’s THE best pedal, but I am using this Tama Hp35? on gigs all summer since I changed the bearing in it last summer. Have used this pedal for gigs, rehearsals, recording sessions, and personal practice since 1993.

Am thinking of busting out a double pedal soon, but this old workhorse is my pedal for now. Just got back from a backyard party gig rocking it. Holds up nicely to this day.
