Is putting your band’s name on your kick drum head still a thing?

The one and only time this happened

I seem to prefer art as opposed to a band name. That’s because I have for many periods played in more than one gigging band and am averse to head changes.

Also: I have a superstition that once I get a front head with a band name on it the band will break up.

Never had one. Just not my thing and no-one in the band(s) ever mentioned, suggested or asked for it.

This...

Played pro for 25 plus years, ten years with a hot shot almost-famous Nashville guy (Rod Hart).

Never had a band logo, and was never asked to apply a band logo.

Keep it clean! IMHO This is what a bass drum should look like... (thanks to Mr Roboto...)

I used a logo head for my 70's & 80's band Guilty Pleasures Orchestra for a few years. It was nice on gigs where we couldn't hang our logo backdrop. Two years ago, our video happy keyboardist put together a system with a screen and projector on each side of the stage, so our logo is up anytime there's not a thematic video being shown during songs. I see it as overkill to keep the logo head, so went back to a very authentic look for the 70's & 80's.

A little art and the band name works for me. Guess I need to work my name in as well.

The one time I shelled out the dough for a nice custom band logo head (from drumart.com) the band broke up like 2 months later.

I’m a member in two bands and a sideman for half a dozen local acts. If there was a quick, easy, reusable way to swap out and/or remove band logos from my kick reso I’d do it in a heartbeat! It would have to not compromise resonance nor leave any marks.

I don’t think such a method exists. In the meantime, I guess I’ll stick with a blank Fiberskyn.

This was the actual name of our band in the 1970's......when someone, (let's say Mary), requested a song, we would start it off with....."Mary, this next song is "Especially For You". We had request cards on all the tables.....it worked really well.View attachment 737415
I’m getting strong Murph and the Magic Tones vibes from this and I like it
