Of the ones I’ve tried I’d say the dw5000 accelerator…..but I picked up this 1980 signature and it is pretty badass. Not quite the wallop of that DW….but what a fine, precise machine it is

Looks inspired by the classic Rogers Swivomatic ......... except for the cam ..........

What is it, actually?

I guess "best" probably is not the same for every drummer, everyone has his or her preference.
Having tried several pedals (also more expensive), I settled for the Pearl P-930.

It has enough adjustments, works great, is solid and not expensive.

I use Jojo Perfect Balance, probably the best pedal I've owned. Darwin is very similar but alot more adjustable and more features, what they can do looks pretty amazing; just super expensive.

I’ve found throughout life that the more “customizable and adjustable” something is, the more I keep futzing with it thinking I’m missing The Perfect Setting.

I’ve still got my Speedking I bought from Mikes Drum Shop in Santa Barbara in 1978, and despite affairs with other sexier pedals, have used it consistently since then (repacked the posts with better grease around 2010).

I’ve tried most of the others, but I find it’s best to work with what I got, refining my technique, rather than chasing something that might or might not be there. YMMV.

No disrespect to other pedals or their lovers!

Vintage,Current.

Quickest, smoothest, light, no squeak.

I'm very surprised nobody has mentioned ACD. The Darwin and Phantom are widely regarded as perhaps the two best pedals on the planet. Bespoke, hand made by a one guy shop in Austria. The Darwin has a nearly year long wait list. I recently replaced my iron cobra double with the Phantom double. Incredibly smooth and balanced.

IMHO, you can’t beat a refurbished Speed King. The old ones had crappy bearings packed in lithium (white) grease that eventually hardened up. But take on of those old pedals apart, replace the bearings & springs with modern updates & pack with silicon grease, and Man—! You have a pedal for the ages. I mounted mine to a floor plate and couldn’t ask for better.

Too much like work? You can get new Speed Kings from Ludwig, not too speedy at Sweetwater. Price an object? Gibraltar has a DD 6711 about $20.00 less, and with a couple more adjustments. They also have a couple other DD pedals that are more modern than the beloved Speed King, if that is of interest.

No one has mentioned a Ghost pedal! At the end of the day, the best is the one you feel the most comfortable with. I have used DW 5000 for 30 years and that is my go to. I inherited a collection of vintage pedals which include: Slingerland Epic, 3 different Rogers pedals, Ghost, Speedking and Camco. All cool to look at but not in the same league as a DW5000 (apologies to you Speedking players!)

I've used a Ludwig Speed King (SK) for over 50 years.

I've tried Ludwig Ghost, Tama Iron Cobra, DW 5000, a Gibraltar (DW clone) and I always end up back with my SK. It just works for me.

For me, with a size 13 Foot , been using a pdp Concept Long Board with Direct Drive. I have a also used an Offset long board with chain drive - which I switch off occasionally. The pdp seems to be my Go To. I have a Mapex 500 TW - double bass pedal that has been used very sparingly and I am probably going to trade it in at Guitar Center perhaps. I really don't need a double pedal - bought it on a streak of Over -zealousness in my younger days at 71 YO. Now I'm 73 going on 74 shortly!! LOL>
