A thread for sharing photos of our drum sets, and maybe also talking a bit about them if you'd like.

Here's a shot I snapped earlier today of my Sonor Phonic Dark Mahogany set.
Shown is a 18" bass drum, 14" floor tom, and 12" tom. I also have a matching 10" tom, and an almost matching 20x14 bass drum (it's Red Mahogany instead of Dark Mahogany). I used to have a matching snare drum, but I sold it several years back.
I've had this set (the three Phonics shown in the photo) for almost 20 years. I bought it from a guy in Japan a few months after seeing him share a photo of it on another forum; upon seeing his photo, I immediately fell deeply in love with it, and let him know that if he ever wanted to sell it, that I'd be interested in buying it. After a few months of daydreaming about ending up with it, it was on its way toward me.

The snare drum shown is a 4x14" AK drums heavy brass.

Anyway, let's see your drum set(s).

Nice.... Let us know how that thing sounds once you get it. I'm pretty happy with my '66 Slingerland red satin flame bop kit (it really does sound nice!) and have no plans of upgrading to anything else... but if someone wanted to trade that Sonor kit for it, I would agree in a heartbeat! That's a really beautiful kit and I imagine that it probably sounds about as great as it looks...

How do you like the Canopus hi hat stand? I have one, but I find it to feel a little stiff - I tried to adjust the tension, but it doesn't feel any looser. Maybe the spring adjustment isn't working.

I have a full phonic bop with 18” kick but I’ve been using my 12/14 toms with a Sonic 16” bass drum. I had a sonor SQ2 in a kit in the same sizes but recently decided I didn’t need both so sold the SQ2 and use these. Sounds so good.
I haf to add a tom holder to the bass drum.

Here's my Ludwig Legacy Exotic Australian Lacewood kit that I have had for a number of years. The drums actually sat for about 10 years in boxes brand new unplayed because life got in the way and finally when I into my current band, ThunderBeard: A Tribute to ZZ Top, I had the opportunity to take them out of the boxes and get them set up at my rehearsal studio. The sizes are: (2) 16x22 BDs, 8x10,8x12,9x13,14x14FT (Not Pictured),16x16FT,&16x18FT. The exotic Australian Lacewood in a sunburst finish is pretty stunning. The Legacy 3 ply Maple/Poplar/Maple w/Solid Maple Reinforcement Hoops is a winner! The drums tune up easily and sound incredible with everything you want in a drum. Aesthetically, the exotic Australian Lacewood is mesmerizing. Ludwig's exotic veneers and lacquer work is pretty underrated, IMHO. Anyway, this is my really special kit. Cheers!

I really like mine. The tension and feel is perfect for my taste, and I don't think I ever adjusted anything. I use a Remo clutch, because I don't like that Canopus' clutch is threaded throughout the area where the cymbal makes contact.

What makes the picture “ dreamy “ ?

I mean, like so many things, it's going to be subjective, right?
For me (regarding the photo of my drum set), although I think it's a nice enough shot of my set, the 'dreamy' element is mostly tied-up in the reality that it was a drum set that I was actually daydreaming about ending up with. I don't expect everybody else (or anybody else, for that matter) to think it's special.

Very, very nice! Are those the Canopus Jeff Hamilton cymbal stands? How do you like those compared to the others currently on the market?

I don’t know about dreamy. Maybe just your run of the mill, standard, American legend.

This one made me finally decide to sell all the others. 22,18,16,13.

My wife must have liked them too. She bought me the matching 20,14,12 for Father’s Day last year.

I’ve always dug this photo from a gig a few years back. My enthusiasm for Sugar Percussion drums is no secret - and my mixed Mahogany 13/16/20 kit with a spruce 4” snare is on full display. But we co-billed with a friends band and the drummer showed up with a rare walnut cocktail kit. You know you’re in Santa Cruz when 2 bands randomly have Sugar kits… The venue is an eclectic local spot, front room of a Crepe restaurant - been around forever.
