Team,

I do not personally know Lee but have always enjoyed his website

and collection.. if you have not perused , take a few , worthy of

attention.

I have had the pleasure of speaking vintage drums with our local

Phoenix Symphony percussion chair...very knowledgeable, talented, and

a pleasure to speak with.

Now that I think about it...have also enjoyed speaking with Symphony

percussionists from San Francisco and the Midwest (Cleveland). All

seem to be the good guys... might be something to that....

At any rate, enjoy... (might want to bookmark this site...).

Peace, Chas

What a cool collection. Thanks for posting.

Up from my neck of the woods. Very nice to see all those old historic drums. A friend of mine named Mark has a nice collection of Stone drums as well as some other Boston drums. He also plays Eames drums pretty regularly and now he teaches at Berklee. I would love to see the BSO some day. I'll bet Lee sounds great with them! Thanks for posting Chas.

Wow. I love the education his site provides. Any idea how the Bower drums are tensioned. It looks like there is a hole in the connecting tube that holds the claws. If you had to but a key in there and keep making half turns, that would be tedious. I guess hourly wages weren't that high back then so there wasn't as much "opportunity cost."

Very cool stuff and lots of it. I've been hearing about Lee since he got the Pops gig, but I've never met him. Those are some very cool drums and the only other 'banjo' drum that I've ever seen. I have one that I got on Ebay years ago and it looks just like that. It's cool that it may have been from this area.

As Kurt points out there's another guy in town with a bunch of Stone stuff. These two should get together and do a museum! Nice stuff, thanks for posting.

Wow!
Thanks for posting this as I had never seen it. I also took advantage of his email and sent an inquiry about that Lion Brand snare I have. If anyone knows ...

Thanks again,
-EW

I played with the guys in the Baltimore Symphony this summer ( Chris, John and Brian) and took lessons from each. They are great guys and very approachable. Also had a chance to play a Eames birch drum like the one Lee had with Pearl HW. Just an awesome drum. Made my mediocre rolls sound great! it belonged to Tony who plays in the Naval Academy Band. Another great guy. I think I like the symphony players better than set players!

Gotta have an Eames drum now!

WOW....Thanks Chas...........cool

thanks for that link chas. that is one amazingly diverse collection. i could spend days on that site...

Thanks, I've seen the site before and it's great.

I particularly am happy to see some love for the Gretsch RB Dixieland snare (model 4105), which he says is his favorite for jazz drumset. That one is a 6 lug snare with renown throwoff... I have one in Tangerine Sparkle and it really sings!

Where is the link to the "Chasmanian Drum Collection" ?

Thanks for sharing that Chas.

You guys are welcome.. I have a few others in the folders on my

computer... a good reminder that many afficianados do not necesarily

participate in drum forums. I'm guessing a few us have bumped into Lee

on the bay of E as we wrangle for vintage drums.

Rick... my measly pile does not even warrant discussion in this context !

Lee has a major league roster.

Peace, Chas

Too much metal not enough wood eh Chas. I hear ya.

Thx for that! Interesting and informative. I especially like the attention to detail in how he describes the sound/feel of each drum. Clear language without waxing overly esoteric...
