Expensive Yamaha hi hat

Yes, Mapex did it. 11 years ago.
That's the time Yamaha needed to (maybe) improve (just a little bit) the Mapex Falcon Hi hat Stand.

The Falcon has the same features that has this Yamaha hh stand and also comes with 2 pull rods of different lenghts, in case you set the hi hat really low, just use the short rod. It also has pikes not only under the platform but in the legs too. Memory clamp, foot plate height adjustment, foldable foot platform, fast and secure cymbal clutch adjustment, possibility of a very low cymbal position adjustment (or high with the long rod), easy tension adjustment, and all this you can find it for just 220€. Having this, I'd never pay 900$ for the Yamaha, not even 400$.

Just watch Nick D'Virgilio showing it:

I have a Falcon hi hat stand and pedal. The hi hat stand is great. The pedal is also very nicely made, but I like the footboard angled up a lot and the mechanism crashes when I do this. I might replace the pedal but it's pretty much a me problem.

I have a Mapex Falcon stand, a Tama HH905 stand and a Pearl Eliminator Stand. All are excellent and I don't think I spent more than $200 (new) on any of them. I really don't see anything that can be improved on these stands other than making them lighter for gigging. So $500+ on a hi hat stand just because it has some anodized metal and a polished footboard is ludicrous, IMO.

Yamaha has figured out that a lot of people are attracted to CNC machined, anodized aluminum bits. I'm surprised the drum industry took this long.

I think the Pearl H2050 is an overkill piece of equipment. That thing retails for half of what this Jammer ha (my pet name for the brand's motorcycles) goes. I got one just because I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Up to that point I never paid more than a hundred bucks for a hi hat stand. The very thought of paying more was just plain sacrilegious! I made it through the late 1980s using a no-name cheap sh!t hh. It did all the things that I, back then, required of a stand: didn't wobble, didn't walk away. Lately, I've bought a couple of 2 leggers because I began using twin pedals: the fore mentioned H2050, and a much cheaper Griffen heavy duty. They each do more than I require, and I feel a lot less stupid with the Griffen, but the Griffen is like a moped to bikers: It's fun to ride, but you don't want your friends to see you on it. So I use the Pearl and opt for feeling stupid.

Ya , this does not seem expensive to me.

A great hi hat stand is so important to playing the drums correctly.

I have 8 in circulation, and in constant play , essentially , every day.

3 Mapex Falcons - favorite , any kind , I’ve ever played.

2 Tama Dyna Sync - favorite direct drive I’ve ever played.

Top of the line A&F - favorite single braced I’ve ever played.

Pearl 2050 Eliminator Redline - favorite chain driven I’ve ever played (not named Mapex).

And this bad boy from the great DW , which is loaded with features , also the coolest looking thing I’ve ever seen , while coming in a bit more expensive than the Yamaha.

…. And I have been invited to play the Yamaha on this Thursday. If it’s as nice as I’m expecting, and I can think of a need for it, I’ll buy it ,, because the hi hat is so essential to proper drum playing.

Just my two cents , for whatever that’s worth , maybe one cent :)

As I was saying ^^

Ok , I had a chance to experience this beast , thought it was going to be today, but it ended up being sooner.

Is it worth the price tag? , if you’re looking for something that is cool from Yamaha, and kind of a novelty in the fact that not many will have it because of its price tag - then absolutely yes.

Would I buy one - absolutely.

If I’m being honest, it’s the Mapex Falcon with a Yamaha sticker on it , at a higher price point with direct drive.

But still VERY cool!!

No more speculation on street price. $570
