I pretty much stopped coming cause of the layout change... it's just too bright for me.. i check in like once every 3 days to a week now.. rather than a few times a day.

According to Forum Stats we have almost 23,000 members. Many have registered but never posted and that's not unusual, but I do recall a time in the not-so-distant past when this board was a hive of activity on a Monday morning that continued throughout the week. Today was particularly puzzling to see only 98 members online and now a couple hours later there are 97 members viewing the forum. Maybe it's just a slow day for whatever reason.

HI Mike Fryed - at one time I too, thought that every drumming topic had been covered before, and since then those same topics have circled around again & again but we still seem to enjoy answering or addressing them if only to be helpful, and that's great.
But there's always gonna be new questions and new topics and new answers or opinions here, it never ends. That's what keeps this board interesting and keeps us all coming back. It's been a wonderful community & valued resource for 20+ years, I hope it's not starting to completely die out.....

I'm here nearly every day... I lurk and read much more than I post.

The numbers you see at the bottom are different than what you saw on the old software because of a time drop off, It maybe showing the number of members
for say the last 30 or 60 minutes, the old one I changed to 120 minutes, so you would see more people on line, they are online, but will drop off at the bottom
when the time is hit. I havent figured it out yet. So while it now shows less members, that isnt the case.

Could be a matter of how many times can you read the same book? Not much to discuss that's new after years of hundreds of players chiming in on the same issues. Its the odd time someone opens a hot topic, but it is pretty repetitive as one would expect.
New blood keep it fresher, but there are so many roads to go down these days.
Im curious why people join, but say nothing at all. Never understood that.

I’m computer illiterate and since the update I’m having trouble even sending pictures to other members. I’m tenacious and will keep learning but I am sure others will not so that could be a small part of it?

People that rarely need to count past four whining about things being repetitive?

I understand what you're saying about the membership-online number statistics at certain times, but I have also noticed far less new topics appearing throughout the day and less replies to most postings in general.

Interesting topic.

Yeah, could be for several reasons already mentioned above.
I work retail, in a music store, selling all kinds of new and used instruments, including drums, and I can say that business has slowed down. There are so many other places to find equipment [online stores, online FaceBook sights, every house in the US selling something on Craigslist, etc.] so I suppose the number of people here on DFO has also dropped accordingly.

Let me pose another question, and I'm not trying to hijack the thread. When you read a topic for the first time, do you read EVERY post, even if its more than one page worth? Or do you just jump in at the end and post your answer? The reason I ask is that many people today have a short attention span, and might not have the desire to read all of the posts of any given thread. So they might simply NOT get involved here?

DFO is not dying out EvenSteven just waiting for pictures of your Black Rogers all set and cleaned up. Today.
Haha!
Still working on the resto/cleanup.
3 more toms to go!
Should be done before the gig on friday!

I actually like the new format. No more garbage popups on my phone, easy to upload pics in different formats and the layout is nice and neat. I also have seen other forums where I'll come back after 6 months and there are no new posts to some threads, so I don't think it's specific to DFO.

DFO isn't dying out, it just smells funny...
I have noticed that there are not as many topics posted as there were in the past. For me I'm more of a student on here than an educator so I hope it stays vital.
There does seem to be an abundance of bickering between certain members on some threads that might be kind of a turnoff (after the amusement wears off) anyway.
Also I have noticed that there are not as many topics posted as there were in the past.

So this should be the 40th entry on a thread started a few hours ago. I think we're alright...

Speaking personally, Being an avid reader I compulsively read every posting before replying to a topic. Those who post their replies before reading the other opinions in a given topic can sometimes look foolish but at least they're participating in their own unconventional way, I guess.
