I hope one day I will have some video AND audio of this 1979 Ludwig kit. I know they are NOT the correct year or decade for a "Ringo" kit but........this kit sounds friggin great! There is a tea towel on the single headed floor tom and a tea towel on the Jazzfest. The single headed bass drum also has laundry inside as well as a felt strip. This bass drum also KILLS!

All I need now is one more 18" or 20" Zildjian from the 60's and I can take the one NEW cymbal down.

This kit is so much fun to play and I know it might look funny but the sound is just great. YES: Ludwig late 70's 6 ply drums can sound good.

If you're happy, that's all that matters.
I don't play drums with towels on them.

Yes, but Abbey Road without the tea towels would not be the same. Anyway, they didn't use all the tea towel. They used small squares of tea towel taped to the heads. I love that sound - I did it to my kit when I was a kid and it sounded awesome. You still get sustain from the bottom head. As a matter of fact, these muffled sounds are very hip again. Paul Simon's latest CD with Phil Ramone has muffled drums. Bear in mind it's an effect - like a horn player using a mute for some tunes. Cool. Nice kit, BTW - the roof of Abbey Road, right? Enjoy those drums.

Rooftop gig was Apple Studio building, 3 Saville Row not Abbey Road.

Abbey Road is quite suburban by comparison. I drove along Abbey Road in the late afternoon a few weeks ago and 45 years later you can hardly get a your car down there for the crowds of tourists hanging around the zebra crossing out side the studio, and of course everyone needs a photo of themselves on the crossing. Must get dangerous at times

Ringo probably used calfskins as well

For how to use a tea towel in a musical drumming environment check out Han Bennick!!!!!!

+1 for Han Bennink

When I was a kid and shared a room with my brother, I covered my drums with wash cloths so I could practice at night, while he slept. I watched his face, if he started to wake up, I played softer. Now, all drums wide open, most of the time.

Just so everyone in here understands............................I do know how to tune double sided toms and bass drums without towels and tape. This one kit is the only set that has stuff on them.

I have three other sets that ring out and sing with tone. lol

Fond of that oyster finish, are you?

Six ply's are great, criminally underrated drums. Beautiful finish on that kit. I love the stain finishes from that era. Here's my favorite:
