I'm wondering where I could find a large selection of NEW Ludwig drums, specifically snares to see how they sound. I am tired of being told over the phone "Yes we sell Ludwig" only to drive for nearly an hour to discover yet another store with a few Accent sets and a Ludwig sign in the window. Of course the store is filled with DW & Taye & stuff, but no Ludwig. Most of the time when I mention that I'm looking for Ludwig, they steer me to some other brand, and talk about how Ludwig is overrated or not worth the money.

What happened to all the "Drum World", "Drum City", "Drum Emporium" type stores from my younger days? Anyone know of a large store with a large Ludwig section in the SF Bay Area? Or in California for that matter...I do travel from time to time..

thanks

Check with franke (member here, named Frank) who works at West LA Music. Or Todd Trent (former Artist Relations for Ludwig) who runs the drum section of Ontario Music.

I live 6 blocks from where the old Drum World use to be in San Francisco, they are now in San Mateo, haven't been to new location since Don sold the business. Don was the youngest brother of Angelo who started the original music store (Angelo's House of Music in the 60's), they sold the big Ludwig sets like the Octaplus maple kit.

DrumWorld music store, they don't show Ludwig Drums in their product list.

Yep, that's what Im talking about. Funny you mention "the old Drum World". That's where I bought my Ludwig set in 1982. Was that on Sansome street? I was trying to remember. The salesman name was Gene. I contacted Drum World in San Mateo recently and they told me that Gene is now working for Pearl Drums. The current Drum World is nothing like the old one though. Its a hole in the wall, and not big at all. I drove up a year or so ago, but they were closed and it was only 5:30 on a Saturday night.

To get specific, I'd just love to see a store that has Legacy Exotics or Classic Maple sets with a Vistalite thrown in for good measure. I'm currently shopping for a snare, & I'd like to see the whole line from the BB's to the current Acrolite on display. Why is that so hard to find? Ludwig is not Accent. They are better than that, but that's all you see anymore.

Thanks for the list of the shops. I'll call through that list and visit them soon.

Forget it.

Nobody carries Legacy kits in the SF bay area. You need to order them. I never have seen any high end Luds on display around here. Loads of dw,pearl, etc but no Luds. I ordered my Legacy kit online. Dealers here will cost a bit more, plus CA sales tax. It adds up. The only potential hitch is if there is a problem with your order/kit then it may be a little more of an effort on your part.
It is frustrating, but from what I've learned from guys here, it is very expensive for dealers to carry lots of high end kits and have them sit around in their stores.

Angelo's house music was on Geneva (near Mission st. till Angelo passed in the 80's), Don opened Drum World across the street (Angelo stop selling drums & let his brother handle that, both stores were in business at the same time, that's when Gene worked at Drum World). Later he moved to Mission near Geneva where the store was large enough to have at lease 10 kits set up, it was a great place to go.

Drum on & good luck.
