I mix and match my hi hats. Right now I hav

14” Sabian AA flat hats top, Zildjian quick beat top (I use as a bottom), Zildjian new beat top from the 80s, and an older Zildjian from 50s or 60s. I’m not good at identifying stamps but it’s my favorite.

16” Saluda (no idea the series but I think it’s Mist-X)
18” Sabian Vault
20” Sabian AAX stage ride (used as a crash)
20” Paiste 505 heavy ride (trying to sell it, who wants it?!)
20” Paiste Signature Full ride

I was a Paisteholic until I became a Mehmetaholic until I get bored and become Aholic to another brand! Lol!
It never ends man!
And on a side note, I've also become a snareaholic!

I hear ya!

Holy S***!!! That is too F'n cool!!
George Hurley is a monster! Minutemen & fIREHOSE were great bands.
I think George is working for the Longshoreman's union in San Pedro, CA now & occasionally plays with Mike Watt.
Steve
It was purchased at their merch table after an east coast gig. Trying to get ahold of Hurley now. I asked watt about it and its potential of being used on an album. He was unsure, but mentioned "
it was prolly used for everything georgie did 'til it got broke!"

I play three different instruments! I'm a multiple a-holic, but ride cymbals and fuzz boxes are the pinnacle of music gear obsession, because each one has its own unique flavor that washes over everything. I got rid of all my cymbals the last time I quit playing drums (which is also the last time I quit playing any instrument before I'm physically or mentally incapacited - I won't make that mistake again. Currently I have some hand-me-downs, and some stuff I got to get started again. Next up is a hand-hammered crash ride.

Zildjian 60s 14" A Hats (medium-light)
Sabian 18" Monarch Crash/Ride

Meinl HCS hats, Sabian B8 crash-ride, hand-hammered (by me) B8 crash-ride.

I like international "NO" over the Paiste logo, and what was written below.
If you ever feel like parting with that, let me know.....

So is anyone else thinking Rock Roll and Bandit need to have their own stickies in the Cymbal and Drums sub-forums?

You know, so if someone starts feeling guilty about how much gear they have they have somewhere to go to get perspective......

Mike Currotto posted pictures of his house one time showing off just some of his snare collection...I used to show it to my wife when she asked if I had enough snares :)

I also play multiple instruments tho mostly bass and drums with guitar coming in 3rd.
I traded some cool basses for drum gear years ago.about half of my basses.
I still am happy with those trades.
An 8 string aluminum neck Yamaha. A steinberg like bass made from a California company..32 frets..

I'm going to start a "best low budget" thread..maybe it will be helpful, I always look for good sounding low budget cymbal.

For years, I played guitar almost exclusively, but when I go to a show, I pay attention to the drums and bass over the guitar 90% of the time.

Now bass is #1. I can't play drums at the level of the other instruments, but I get a lot out of it when I do it. I've got pretty cheap, but decent, instruments for everything. #1 guitar is a Yamaha baritone, #1 bass is a Squier Mustang, etc. Drums for now are giant 70s Pearls, but they'll be replaced with a Breakbeats or Club Jam type thing soon because my jam room is also my living room and the drums are an imposition.

Cheapo cymbals: Sabian XS20s! They cost about as much as Scimitars and they sound great.

Cheapo snares: those chrome-over-steel Slingerlands!

The scimitars were terrible. The bronze scimitars were much better.
But look for sabian pro cymbals.
I've got 6 pro rides and all are good....look for the hammering , the older ones are hand directed still machine hammered but there is a difference.
The last one I got was a sabian pro dry ride.all machine hammered. It doesn't sound as good as the older ones but still good sounding.with a decent bell.....high pitch with good stick.
I used to get these rides for 50 dollars shipped, but they've gone up in price to around 70-90 dollarsebay.
I see much cheaper at gc. If it's near you.
Splashes I like 10" n 12" also 14" crash I liked. The 16" is different I liked most of em ( I have 6) 4 I liked but there like heavy rock crashes to me anyway.
Each cymbal sounds different , so if you can get a stick on any , try em out. Let me know what you think.
Snares... Mostly I have premier snares , lots of the cheaper cos.
I've got a premier 2000 cos parrallel throw which is very nice.
Also an Orange County silver sparkle with the big holes in the side.loud.
A few mij stencils.
A 60's Ajax parrallel which is also nice.
A Kent us 60's snare
Maybe a few more but I think that's most of em.
Not a great snare collection.

All over got right now is an Acrolite and a Slingerland, but I used to have one of those Pearl Piccolos. That was really fun and really, really cheap.

Hmm, lets see... I've got a few. I think this is everything?
One of the great things about playing a lot of theatre shows it is offers a fantastic excuse to have many sounds as part of your palette. :) (And in all seriousness, I've had people tell me that's one of the reasons they hire me - "You're stuff always sounds great and it always sounds right for the music!") Almost everything here has been used on a gig at least once.

... And yet I'm always on the lookout for more. ;) Not ashamed to say it, I love cymbals. (Actually I love any metallic resonating instrument...)

I really enjoy reading all of the wide variety a lot of you have. It validates my own weakness for cymbals. I can tune a drum, change heads and even cut new bearing edges, but a cymbal is the sound it was born with. You can coax out variations on that sound with technique, different sticks and mallets... but the fundamental tone is the same. Something about that defined consistency draws me in and holds my attention.

the thought of this possibly being used on 'Double Nickels...' is enough to keep me awake at night!
