Great Bruford drum solo from this era, and in the description he even comments on the new band. Also, in the interview Danny Carey said he bought Bill's Dragon Drums (Look like clear Octo's) from the Bruford auction that Graham Russell drums ran a few years back. I wanted to snag something from that sale, but prices got too high.

From Bills VHS tutorial "Bruford and the Beat!" I still my have my copy even though I don't have a VHS Player!

My older brother just purchased tickets for me and my other brother for the Richmond, Virginia performance October 8th. Looking forward to this show very much!

I have very mixed feelings about this... I'll probably wait to see/hear how it is. That solo clip of Bill is so great... as much as Danny is in similar territory technically, I just don't know if he has the grace.
Can you elaborate?

I personally think that Vai is a bit of a wildcard for playing Fripp’s parts. I’m not sure how well that’s going to work.

I am totally fine with Carey channeling his inner Bruford and potentially giving the parts a bit more muscle.

What did you think of Gavin Harrison playing some of those parts?

I'm strangely not that excited, even though I'm a big KC fan. I've seen plenty of shows by the real band so I guess that I'm a little less interested in this tribute band, even if it does have Levin and Belew. I know the other two players are great, but I'm not such a big fan. Still, a couple of my buddies in my band are really hot to see this thing, and since it isn't happening here in Portland, they're talking about flying to LA to see it... and I may tag along. It'll probably be far more amazing than I imagine and it'll give me and excuse to go to LA, and I've never been...

The two shows that I saw back in the 80s of the original band, one from the Beat tour and the other from Three of Perfect Pair were two of the most memorable shows that I've ever seen...

Danny Carey is a great drummer, but Gavin Harrison played with Crimson, and honestly I prefer his less heavy, more crisp style over Carey. Carey probaly just really wanted to do it, was friendly with the others and got onboard, which I totally understand. I doubt that it was the kind of thing where anyone had to audition into the band. I personally would be a bit more excited to see this thing if it were Gavin Harrison on drums though...

Yeah, I can see preferring GH over DC for this gig too.

I'm hoping for a bit of reimagining of the music at this show. I love that Crim era, and I own a million live versions of those songs. I really don't want to see a cover band. I think they'll twist things up enough to keep it faithful but inject a little weirdness. I'm looking forward to it. Plus I've never seen Vai live.

Ticket prices in Boston scared me away. It's almost sold out already, so I guess I'm in the minority. I saw the original in '81 though.

Vai is an excellent choice, I think. He’s a perfectionist and an absolute virtuoso guitar player. No doubt he will kill on the KC material. I think since both he and Carey are huge fans, they are both gonna bust their behinds to make sure they bring it.

I've got my tickets. I'd hope that they'd do an interpretation of the releases rather than doing a note for note rehash.

Rehearsals started today. First gig 12th of September.

Looks like Dannys kit is VERY Bruford--inspired.

I feel the same way. But guess who was originally asked to take the drum chair? :-D
Gotta keep in mind, this isn't a new Crimson lineup. More a celebration of that era. Carey is a huge Crim fan so I'm thinking he'll more than do it justice. And Vai can literally play anything. Going to be really interesting me thinks.

I doubt he’ll be hitting as hard as he does at his Tool shows.
I saw him play with Volto, a prog jazz band, at the Magic Bag in the D.

I had to move to the back of the small room because he was hitting so hard. I could literally feel the air coming off his cymbals.
