me too i just put the tom on then loosen and tighten until it droops right where i want it. After initially doing this it’s all good going forward
Mine just kept drooping, ending up with the tom sitting on the bass drum.

I put it in a snare basket and never looked back.

Also ordered 2 new lugs and ditched the tom mount.

Perfectly happy with this setup.

There's not thing like unboxing a new drum set! I bought this as an open box. There wasn't really anything that seemed to have been opened or even taken out of the box.

Had to reorganize a little bit so I could move my current set up out and set up the new Renowns. My rug was all curled up on the back side so I broke everything down so that I could spin the rug around and put some weigh on the curled up portion to flatten it back down. I really gotta spend some more time cleaning and organizing in there. I've amassed a bunch of cymbals in the past year and I don't have much in the way of storing them. Right now they're just laid in a stack.

Back to the drums. I'm still experimenting with tuning. The 13 inch tom was the easiest to tune up. It sounded great right away. I had it on the bass drum at first, which put it a little high for me. I mounted it on a cymbal stand next. I was hoping the tom post would slide into one of my cymbal stands, but it's even too thick for my heavy duty Yamaha double braced stands, so I had to put a clamp on the tom post then clamp to the cymbal stand. It was a little clunky with all the crap hodge dodged together, so it ended up in a snare stand for now.

The bass drum sounded ok without a whole lot of work, but I need to refine it a bit. The batter is a Remo P3 clear and the looks like a Gretsch labeled P3 style coated. I've only tried using a felt strip on the front once before and it was a bit of a failed experiment last time. It's very controlled with the felt strip, but I feel like it takes too much boom out of the drum. It would be great to find a compromise between the two. Even though the front head has the muffling ring already, I figured I'd try it before I cut a hole in the front head. Maybe the felt strips work better with something like an Ambassador with no muffle ring.

I always have a hard time dialing in tuning on floor toms for some reason and this is no exception. I'll experiment more with it tomorrow. The toms came with clear Emperors which aren't my favorite heads. I generally prefer coated heads and I figured after I played on these for a while I'd replace them with coated G2s or Response 2s.
