^^ for you!

This drum set forces me to play “better” than on any other kit I sit behind. Maybe because it’s a four piece or , just maybe , because it’s a PEARL baby!

Okay, I'll play, though I don't have a pretty picture. My music room is a mess. These are a bit rare. Presidents. 22, 16, 13. The bass and ft are 68ish and covered in tiger eye. The 13" is 70ish and covered in golden grain. Real Presidents with phenolic shells. I've never seen a vintage luan shell with a president badge. I think Pearl played with the history of the line to sell more reissue drums.
Round shells, great bearing edges, decent hardware, punchy and powerful and not quite as hard or cold as fiberglass or acrylic can sound... if you know what I mean. They take different heads well and I have not had problems in any tuning range I've tried. The bass can have a bit more of the basketball sound than wood shells when you stick a microphone inside. I have a couple sets with 20" basses. Those have some magical punch. "Stewart Copeland" snare on the stand. I like 'em.

Thank you tris. Great rig.

My only Pearl drums were these early Presidents. Great wrap. Originally bought in Germany, somebody brought them to the US. I drove down to Richmond from DC to buy them and got a ticket on the way down for an expired safety sticker—so they were more expensive than they should have been!

Pearl make great drums…

My first real kit in the early 70’s was an Arianna kit, obviously made by Pearl, as it said so under every lug. 22, 12, 13, 16 and 6.5” steel snare. Excellent workhorse kit, sounded great never missed a beat.

Y2K after an almost 20 year hiatus from playing drums, my reintroduction kit was an early Pearl Export. 22, 12, 13, 16 and 6.5” steel snare. I mainly played it as a 4 piece, so parked the 13. They sounded great, but I recut the edges as I’d made a jig, and they sounded even better.

Much later, my LDS had this old 65’ 3 ply Pearl bass drum in the storeroom. So I put new heads on it, and it has the most wonderful tone, not overly loud, but teamed with a Supra it was perfect for the open mic I was house drumming for. I’ve still got it and can’t part with it.

Nothing high end here… all working class.

I appreciate your sweet pics Lazmo.

Here's my latest kit I got in trade from a friend closing a backline service. 2006 Masterworks in red lacquer. 22,10,12,13,14,16. It's hard to capture in the photos, but it has a subtle hint of orange in the finish that I love and some very cool-looking checking from the temperature changes in the warehouse in which they were stored. One of the best sparkle finishes I've seen.

My first ever "professional" series drum set was an early optimount (2004 maybe?) Masters MMX in sunrise fade. I got the kit used with 22,10,12,14 rack toms and later custom-ordered a 16x16 on legs. Those thin maple shells with re-rings were the best sounding drums I've ever owned. If the 14 had been on legs, I'd probably still own them.

Thanks nsparkman. Love Sunrise Fade. The Masterworks are sweet too. I appreciate your pictures.

I have an MMX shell pack in Emerald Mist, 10, 12, 13, 15, 20 & 22" bass drums and matching 6.5x14" snare, also have a Masters Studio (birch) snare and hands-down my favorite snare, the 5.5x13" brass Sensitone w/Fat Tone hoops. Such a musical drum.
