I think his position is still volunteer. He is definitely not an employee of the company that owns the site now.
As a former forum moderator myself, I have a lot of empathy. It's like being middle management - no authority to affect real policy changes, and a whole passel of disgruntled employees to deal with. Except there's no paycheck. Lol

JDA (Joe) got under a lot of people's skin at DW, mine included. As many of you know, he's extremely critical, Gretsch-centric, and not afraid to mouth off to almost anyone. I got tired of his sarcastic, nebulous and clipped remarks. He's banned for life here? Probably a wise move.
I only came back to DW for good relationships I have with Bo Eder and Bermuda, plus a few others. I still say, this place is much better.

Since I blocked JDA a long time ago for his constant incoherent rambling, it looks I missed all of this.
I forgot about his incoherent rambling. That's a good description of what he does. Totally annoying. I think he's a cranky old guy with a lot of time on his hands.

I noticed a few months ago that the moderation had become extremely heavy-handed. I PMd the moderator and came away feeling that even constructive criticism was unwelcome. Right after that exchange, I no longer was able to access the website consistently. Extremely slow load times, if it would load at all. It seemed I could still log in, but I couldn't actually use the site. I'm not suggesting there is a connection, but I did find it odd. I haven't been back in a long time.
