I picked up a set of 1966 champagne sparkle Ludwig Super classics with a matching jazzfest snare and matching canister seat for 300 bucks. They were filthy, so I wasn't sure if they would actually still be round, etc., but they cleaned up perfectly and looked like a mint set.

I ended up selling the cannister first and then the set a couple of years ago for about 4K.

Definitely my best drum score.

My best deal was starting out using my fathers kit. He never got the high hats back :)
Was given a fully loaded Tama techstar kit (simmons type) from my cousin.
Gifts from family over time: Lot's sticks, set of rototoms, cowbell, misc percusion toys, microhphones.

About 5 years ago, advertised online auction in PA, lots of pics of cases, but only one pic opened to show the bass head. But I could discern the ten LW claws, so that's all I needed to play. Bidding ended at $9.50. After auction commission, I was out less than $12. I kid you not.

Incidentally, every other lot in the auction was fishing gear.

Gretsch RB progressive jazz set with matching wood snare for $125. Aqua satin wrap that was pretty scratched up. I got it re-wrapped white and gigged with it for over ten years.
