A couple of months ago I ordered a complete set of six Fiberskyn batter heads for my Ludwig Legacy Maples from Pro Drum Shop. Theyfinally arrived this week and I picked them up the other day:

Now comes the fun part — I get to take this all apart, pull and replace all the batter heads*, re-tune everything and put it all back together again:

(There's a reason it's been six years since the last time...)

*Except the snare, which wears a calfskin batter that'll probably last longer than I will in this mortal coil.

While I've been able to resist the Inde bronze snare (I'm not sure how much longer I can, though,) I was unable to pass up a deal on the highly acclaimed Stage Custom. I'm just so tired of sharing my nice drums with others, I had to have a kit I don't mind backlining, and I really wanted a 20, 10, 12, 14 rig for smaller venues. And this thing sounds great. Horrible buying experience at GC, but they gave me $80 off to make it worth my while. This will be the kit I leave at the rehearsal space and drag to gigs where 3 drummers want to use my kit. For the price, I really won't mind.

Took home this stunning MIJ 5000 kit from March 1982 in Deep Green wrap, and Flying Dragon pedal for a quite the steal too.

Great as a temp set untill the AMH comes in next year.

They look vry well maintained for drums that are 40 years.

And are so much fun to play.

The Pinstripes stay on for the studio, the batter side of the kick needs a new clear head.

I got in this one today.

This is probably my 4th as I keep going back to them.

Now on the roc n soc nitro base:

I hope to find someone who wants to trade this engine for the rack model so it fits in my studio/live rack.

Last drum I bought was this black Acrolite, 6.5x14. I assume the throw was an after market upgrade. Put some Canopus snares on it. Sounds nice and dry but full, like you’d expect. I have an 8-lug 5” version also. Also, I’m never retiring because I spend all my money on cool drums. :/

Mapex Armory Fusion. The 10" tom sits in my drum room at home as does the mounting hardware that came on the 10 and 12.
I also changed out all the stock heads. Also came with the Mapex Tomahawk steel snare.

This Indé bronze is a killer, I would like a bronze snare and this one might be on top of the list.

Already posted in my thread: "Mapex snares, why not...But which one?"
so, they had an "Attic sales" today at my stores so, I bought the Shadow. It was not tuned at all so, I struggled a bit as the snare head was not very well seated, in fact, a guy bought it 2 weeks ago and return it. There were one side of the bottom hoops that was higher than the other side, I tried to remove it with the head and to start from scratch but with no success. So, I came back at the other store, the one closer to me and the guy solved the problem in pushing quite a lot on its Center, both heads, quite a lot of glue cracking to. Ok, now I know I can do it but men, that was scary, especially for the bottom Head.
Also, it's a Birch/walnut with outer ply rosewood Veneer, so, Birch was a wood that I didn't have, I wanted a rosewood snare for the look, so, I kill two birds in one stone, my wallet thanks me!!!

I've checked it several times but not sure I like the width, is it really a killer snare for jazz?

Took it to rehearsal last night and I had to fiddle with it a bit. For some reason it sounded way lower in that room than in my practice room. It’s not a loud drum, about on a par with my 65 Slingy. But it’s very sensitive but it does pop nicely when you hit it. My drum teacher remarked that it had a great rim shot sound. I‘m a sucker for the stick saver hoops I just love them. I have 3 Tama snares all with the sound arc hoops. Add that to my 3 Slingerland snares.
Is it a killer jazz snare? It could very well be. I’ve only had it a week and I’m still tweaking it. It has the sharpest bearing edges I’ve ever seen. But yeah, it will be the first snare I grab for the next jazz gig.

I'm contributing WAY too much to this thread lately. I caved to temptation and bought this INDe 6.5 x 14 bronze snare. Good gravy, she sounds as pretty as she looks. I'm done buying gear for a time. I haven't decided how long that time will be though. lol

I’ve been wanting a 24” WFL bass drum and have had my eyes out for one for a while. I also have been looking at WFL kits too just dreaming. Then this popped up and it was local pickup only; which was only 2 hours away so I jumped on it.

1946-1948 WFL White Marine Pearl (yellowed) all matching badges

13/16/24 with 5.5x14 SuperClassic snare.

Gretsch kit #8. I believe it’s technically kit #16 in the overall count.

This is a 1970 Broadkaster SSB kit in Mirror Chrome. It came with 13 & 14 mounted toms and a 16x18 floor tom. 14x22 bass drum. The snare is a rare 10 lug wood snare. My understanding is this finish was only available for one year.

The really awesome folks at Gretsch were kind enough to make me a 16x16 floor tom and wrap it in matching Mirror Chrome, along with the correct era badge. The 18” floor tom on its own was a bear to tune so if I gig with these drums the 18” stays home. But it’s fun to play these as one up, two down like I did in the 70s.

Got a Zelkova in a trade, and the guy I traded with didn’t pack it right.

I got it repaired by Chris Heuer, and it sounds like a Zelkova again! You can hardly notice that it was cracked at all.
