I agree and I make sure to wear blue shoes or they wont sound right.
Wow! Beautiful!

And yes, the shoes make a huge difference in the overall blueness of the sound. Which reminds me that I should always wear my blue shoes whenever I play.

I bought a Pearl double pedal case/bag and 2 types of rods to try out:

I have been using the single pedal version for years for storing all kinds of smaller items and when I happened to see the last double version in stock I had to get it:

That’s a great idea. I have way too many empty cases just taking up room in the closet.

I’m gonna have to give some thought to how I can repurpose them.

Thnx.

Just got myself a set of player's grade mismatched Gretsch USA customs. The toms are early 1970's SSB, while the bass drum is a 1960's RB. Steal of a deal on this set as it's a rewrap and less than mint for sure. The hoops, shells and edges are in great shape, but there are a few extra holes, Slingerland mounts (anybody have a set-o-matic arm?), and a few unoriginal details like floor tom feet, a bass drum spur wing nut that's been replaced with a screw, and one of the four bass drum rubber spur feet is different than the others.

I'm not a collector, but a player, and this kit has THAT sound in spades. I may obsess one day about finding vintage Gretsch parts (anyone know a good source? Should I just give up now?). For the moment everything works, and it's the shells, edges and hoops that make the magic. I'm thrilled to have that at my disposal, even if not in the form of a museum quality showpiece. I like the sizes for their versatility. I already have only bigger kits, and I feel like the 20 and 16 can really go up or down with ease. I've got them tuned quite high right now for THAT bop sound and feel, but I know they can go many other places with careful tuning. There's also something nice about the even intervals between the 12, 16 and 20.

It took the evening to get this thing put together and tuned up, hoping to take it for a spin tomorrow.

Hard to go wrong with Gretsch from any year!!

I've been watching a local Craigslist ad since January for Premier Artist Series Birch drums. Normally my collection is strictly American made, but I was curious about them. But the timing was never right. Month after month, the seller was lowering the price, but still they didn't sell. Today the moon and stars aligned, and I was able to go see the drums.

To my surprise, the seller is a drummer in his 70s who is unloading his "extra" kits. Besides the Artist Series, he also had a Gen-X set. Both sets came with cases and the drums themselves were in good cosmetic shape, 8.5/10 or so. After some negotiation, I bought both sets.

I was REALLY glad my Lady was not with me. Not just because of her opinion of my buying two more sets, but once I loaded up, my Rav 4 WAS COMPLETELY FULL with no room for a passenger. Sitting at home now, looking at the drums, I feel like the dog who caught the car... WTF do I do now?

Specs:
Premier Artist Birch, red gloss, 8x10, 9x12, 10x13 and 11X14 mounted toms, 16x16 floor, 16x22 bass.
Premier Gen-X, black wrap, 8x8, 8x10, 9x12 mounted toms, 11x14 and 13x16 suspended floor toms, 18x22 bass, 5.5x14 snare drum.

Show off your most recent drum purchases here! :headbang:
Since we have a thread like this for cymbals, why don't we have one for drums and everything else drum related?

Here are my purchases/arrivals over the last 3 months:

Custom Pork Pie birch shell kit in blue sparkle wrap. Sizes are 20x14, 8x7, 10x7, 12x8, and 16x14. More pics to come later:

Gretsch 14x5 Hammered Brass snare:

And I scooped this one up last night. I had been lusting for a solid shell snare drum and the price dropped to the point where I couldn't say no.
Doc Sweeney 14x5.5 solid cherry snare drum:

Having bought back a 20" Bosphorus Master Vintage ride cymbal recently, today I ordered a Zildjian A 18" Uptown Ride cymbal to see if I can EVER find that ride I can hear in my head ... :) I like low volume and dry but articulate sounds and we will see ....
