Has anybody played on the Remo coated Ambassador-X series drumheads yet! I’m just trying to get some feedback to see how they sound.

Are you referring to the Ambassador X models ?

The Ambassador X heads are a great compromise head - the durability of a two ply head with the more resonant quality of a single ply head .

Yep, a good option when you want a middle ground between an Ambassador and an Emperor.

Indeed. I have one on my Black Beauty and it’s a good balance with controlling a bit of the overtones without muting the ringing musical notes of the brass shell.

I have tried them on tom batter sides and do not like them. They don't have the brightness I love from coated ambassadors and they feel "sticky"? Meaning I feel like the stick rebound was stuck on impact. Kind of a weird comment, but that's best way I can describe their play-ability. Finally they do not get the same sound as an emperor coated (if you're wondering). I mention that because I also use and love 2 ply heads on tom batters depending on the application/music. In my experience, I just don't care for these 12 mil heads...and that includes the G12.

Peace and love,

I used a coated Controlled Sound X (the 12mil head + a black dot underneath) on the floortom of my Pearl Midtown kit, and it worked GREAT for making the 13" floor sound bigger.

I actually like Coated Ambassador X on my Bronze Ludwig snare and I enjoy the 'softer' feel and 'darker' tone of the thicker head.

For me they work on a drum by drum basis. Some drums the are great on, other drums they lose some life and fullness rather than adding it. Just has to do with the resonant structure of the drum I guess. They work great on vintage Ludwig’s with thick bearing edges. Not so good on drums I’ve had with sharp edges.

Favorite "rock" snare drum head. Anytime I want to shave just a little high-frequency overtones off. NOT dead.
